80th Birthday Celebrations

 

On Monday the 25th of June, St. George's School celebrated its 80th birthday with a special concert and a champagne reception. 

Music from each of the eight decades, which have passed since the school was founded was chosen to set the scene, with students giving anecdotes of the history of the school and school gossip from those times.  A presentation bottle of wine was also given to each family to mark the occasion.

The programme from the day included: Cantique Suisse from the Year 7 and 8 girls,  1920's - Ain't misbehaving from Sarah Barnsley and Louise Packer, 1930's - mood indigo from a Jazz Sextet (Tom Nixon, Jethro Lawrence, Midori Kurokawa, Brad Stark, Patrick Scully & Peter Onslow), the Lady is a Tramp - Amelia White, 1940's - Sit Down from Brad Stark, Robin Cowie & Patrick Scully and You're Rocking the Boat from Jethro Lawrence, Alex Urquhart Ducharme, Tommy Scully and Tyler Marchionne. 1950's - No Particular Place to Go - Staff Band, 1960's - Getting Better from Alex Urquhart Ducharme, Tom Nixon and Robin Cowie, 1970's - Leaving on a Jet Plane from Megan Stark, Amelia White, Laura Nixon, Alex Barrios, Tasha Tomkinson, Stephanie Hitchens & Celine Barreau, 1980's - Some where out there from the Jazz Band, 1990's - The Lord is My Shepherd from the School Choir, 2000's Pirates of the Caribbean from the Jazz Band, Into the West from the School Choir and Ol' Man River from Patrick Scully. 

A dance and gymnastics performance was also put on courtesy of Miss Marta Angelo and her team.  Congratulations and Happy Birthday St. George's ... here is to many more successful years.
