Year 3 Excursions

To compliment their study of ‘Life in the Roman Times’ Year 3 visited a Roman museum in Avenches.  They saw the gold bust of the emperor Marcus Aurelius.  It is the first time that the genuine gold bust has been in the museum in 10 years. The children visited the amphitheatre and listened the acoustics.  They walked round the ruins and saw the last remaining tower on the East Gate.

Linked to the Year 3 Topic, the children visited a Chariot racing event.  They tried out the ten tasks that have to be achieved in order to become a Gladiator and realised that there was potential in Year 3.  They then watched a show and saw Julius Ceasar and watched some gladiator fights, in which they showed their their appreciation with a 'thumbs up' or a 'thumbs down'.  The children then took part in a show playing the parts of woman and children that were taken captive by the barbarians!
