The day before, André had
already set up metres of cables, microphones, amplifiers and partitions
stands so that all the musicians and artists could start as early as
possible, making the assembly hall look like a proper recording studio.
Everyone was both eager and anxious to play. It was a huge task to record 17 songs with
amateurs over one day when professional musicians can spend one week
over two bars of chords! Luckily, Mr Onslow and all his music students
had spent hours rehearsing for this and were ready. The Jazz Band started
the day under the painfully hot stage lights and were more than happy to
enjoy Mrs Schibler’s delicious cakes and refreshing beverages after
their performance. Then followed our experienced senior school choir and
the chamber choir, who left me speechless for a while. The Staff Band
followed shortly to record “Brick in the Wall” with the choir just
like on the real Pink Floyd CD, which I used to listen to when I was
younger! The JD choir came in the afternoon on stage next and sang along
to Miss Coley on piano as if they had done that all their lives!
Very impressive, indeed. We finished the day with our four soloists,
whose job was remarkable. Their performance attains perfection, if you
listen carefully to the CD, you cannot disagree! What a day …
What a CD! Once again, thank you
very much to all the people who took part in this project, however great or small their role. Solidarity and empathy pervade the whole CD. This is exactly what Margaux needed to
see. Merci. David Chapuis
