| Social Services
have been very busy this term. Forms have been very creative and new
activities have been brought in such as the fun run, "sponge the
teacher" and the money trail. All in all forms raised 1,500 chf
this term.
This term we also received some of the numerous balloon tags that we let go last term. Most of them came from Italy and Germany. The winner of this year's balloon launch, which raised 980 chf is Lauren Watson, whose balloon went all the way to Munich, 517 km away! The JD, as always, raised an excellent amount at their summer fête, 2,300 chf. Working for Social Services does not only mean collecting money. Sometimes, it just means spending time with people just like many of you did with the Burier pensioners, who always love to meet the younger generation. It can also mean collecting items for the children of Sri Lanka in the wake of the Tsunami Disaster, or for the poorer people in our own local community through "Les Cartons du Coeur" in Clarens. This year has been a particularly difficult one for Margaux. It is always hard to see someone suffer so much. The CD, "The Dog Ate My Homework", was a very good way for all of us to express our deepest sympathy and heart-felt support to Margaux, her family and close friends. It was great to see so many students and staff, play, sing, shake and sweat under the stage-lights recording what has become St. George's first-ever CD. Journalists came to write articles in local papers, songs were played on Lausanne FM, Framboise, Radio Chablais and orders flooded in from those close by and as far away as Barcelona, London and Florida. Thank you to all of the artists for their hard work and particularly to Mr Onslow for his advice, commitment and genuine interest in the project. We know that Margaux really likes the CD, which was our intention. This year, all in all, we raised around 40,000 chf. Good luck to Mr Gillan who will be doing the Iron Man challenge in Zurich, in an attempt to raise money for Fond'action Contre le Cancer. Hope to see you all next term ready to start another year of helping others and raising money for our charities.
