St. George's held its annual Prize-giving and Graduation Ceremony on Thursday June the 30th. Despite a dark and rainy start to the day, the spirits of the graduating students were not dampened, as they smiled happily for photos and took their place of honour next to the podium. The twenty graduating students: Natalie Attar, Thoraya Binzagr, Shani Blum, Sara Bosshart, Gonzalo Cerón, Serena Cutter, Elena Fokina, Ludmila Goutina, Chloe Harty, Edward Harty, Kirsty Hughes, Jawan Kudus, Dean McIntosh, Filipa Mendes, Sebastian Montero, Catherine Mugnier, Tamara Paquin, Edgar Quaglia, Katrina Salmon and Dilyara Satdinova each received a specially designed St. George's Dragon Brooch marking the occasion of their graduation. Guest speaker for the occasion was his Excellency, Simon Featherstone, who entered the Foreign and Commonwealth Office some 25 years ago. Mr Featherstone's career path has involved him in affairs around the World, from Asia to the Falkland Islands. As a fluent speaker of Mandarin he has spent 8 years in China and was the political and economic counsellor during the handover of Hong Kong. More recently, as Head of the European Union Department, Mr Featherstone was involved in the enlargement of the European Union and EU/Swiss relations. In April 2004 he was appointed as Her Majesty’s resident Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and non-resident Ambassador to the Principality of Liechtenstein. After an address by the Chairman of the School Council, Mr Guy Chessex, Mrs Carolyn Steinson, Principal gave her report of the school year. The school's junior and senior choirs delighted us with their singing as did the Jazz Band with their upbeat and foot-tapping numbers. Prizes and Diplomas were then awarded by our guest speaker. The Head of School, Sara Bosshart ended the ceremony with her vote of thanks.
