Geography Trips

Year 7 Trip to Les Mosses

In June, Year 7 accompanied by Mr Jupp and Miss Byng went to Les Mosses.  They began their day at the barrage of Lac de l'Hongrin which supplies water and produces electricity for the area.  Nearer to Les Mosses they climbed up to Lac Lioson which was still frozen and the area was covered in snow.

The previous year, some hardy St. George's souls had a swim in the lake ... but not today!  The end of the day was spent measuring and sketching the small stream that meanders across the meadows just on the edge of the village.  Some of the more adventurous pupils managed a quick paddle here.

Year 8 Trip to the Glacier du Trient

Also in June Miss Byng, Mr Jupp, Miss Bolton and Skye the dog accompanied Year 8 to the Trient Glacier and Gorge. From La Forclaz, above Martigny on the route to Chamonix the group began their walk out to the glacier.  After a brief stop at the hut they scrambled up the way to the glacier - the boys complaining and bringing up the rear!

Mr Jupp explained how the glacier had been formed and the group enjoyed looking around at the beautiful scenery.  On the way down they stopped at the Gorge where Charné Roux (since it was her birthday) bought everyone an ice-cream. Thanks Charné!

Year 10 Les Mosses - Geography & Biology Trip

Year 10 Geographers & Biologists visited this area with Mr Lineham and Mr Jupp. The Geographers measured various points on the local stream aiming to record the various changes in the size and depth of the stream. The Biologists on the other hand assessed the local flora and fauna.

Year 10 Dent du Jaman & Rochers de Naye

Year 10 also enjoyed a post-exam trip with Miss Hammal, Mr Jones and Mr Jupp to the local Dent du Jaman & Rochers de Naye close to the end of term.

Mr Jupp took the more adventurous and fit students to climb the Dent du Jaman.  They strolled to the summit in record time and watched while the rest of the group caught the train from Jaman.  Everyone managed to walk down, admiring views and the geographical features in abundance.
