During May, Year 6 decided to do something different to buy the traditional farewell present from Year 6 for the Junior Department. The following article from Steven Thomas of Year 6 explains how they went about raising money to buy their present.
Year 6's Stall on the Market
All our class decided to go to the market and
sell our toys. This was done because we wanted to raise money for the Junior
School's present as we were leaving.
It all happened on two Saturdays: the 4th and
the 11th of May. Our very first customer was a man with a very fluffy
moustache, he bought a plastic pony which he kept stroking as he walked away.
At about 9 am it started to rain heavily, but we didn't want to give up.
All of us soaking kids were shouting our advertising slogans in French and
English. Around 11 am many of us were starting to leave,
only a few of us stayed under the small shelter which was leaking torrents of
rain. Soaked but joyful the rest of us went home full of pride at 1
pm. During all that morning a lady opposite us was singing, it attracted
many people to both hers and to our stall.
On Saturday 11th May here we were, the other
half of year 6 plus 3 others who had been there the week before. This time, Oh
what a sunny day it was. People were buying something every minute. As you
can imagine, without buckets of rain we had twice as much success. In
total we sold 4 bikes. Again we all had lots of pleasure. Overall we
earned the amazing amount of 821 Chf.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise our
two marvellous Saturdays.
