Apart from the annual afternoon tea and concert for the elderly of the Burier Nursing Home which took place on Saturday 12th of May, Social Services had several major events this term.
Global Harmony Concert
On the 4th of May some students and their teachers attended the Global
Harmony fund
raising concert at Lausanne. Global Harmony is one of our sponsored
charities, more information about which can be seen on the Social Services
noticeboards in school.
Indian Earthquake Relief Lunch
On Thursday the 24th of May, Mr Shaw, Mr Jones, Mr Katz, Yashika and Rani attended a fund-raising lunch which took place in the Black Pearl restaurant in Montreux. All the proceeds from the lunch went towards Earthquake Relief in India. St. George's made a donation of 1,000 Sfr to the Relief Fund.
Sponsored Bike Ride
On Saturday the 23rd of June the Sponsored Bike ride took place. Under glorious azure skies a mixed group of 11 students, teachers and parents rode 100 km along the cycle paths of the Rhone Valley from Sierre back to St. George's in Clarens.
For those old enough to imbibe, a welcome glass of champagne awaited their return. All monies raised went to Global Harmony projects in Brazil. A sum in excess of 1,000 Sfr was raised from this social services event. Well done and thank you to all those who took part: Mr Hill, Miss Byng, Miss Bolton, Mr Kumar, Brahma Kumar, Year 7, Mr Claud Vahlé, Andrew Shaw, James Spelling, Year 11, Mrs Spelling, Mr Grey and Mr Blesovsky,

Balloon Launch Update
Two balloons from the Junior Department were found in the North of Italy. One tag only from the Senior School came back from Adelboden. It was Maria Esteve's and she wins the 40 Sfr voucher from La Placette. Thank you to everyone who took part.
Other Projects this term
Other fund raising projects this term included a non-uniform day, the Junior Department Summer Fête (which raised an excellent 1,600 Sfr), stationery selling, car washing and food and drink selling during sports events. All in all, the grand total of 4,304 Sfr was raised this term. Thank you to everyone who took part in, sponsored or organised Social Services events and to the group's co-ordinator, Mrs. Barbara Chambovey.
