If we had to sum up this term’s fund raising, we could say that there were plenty of good ideas but, unfortunately with the public and school exams taking up a good deal of our time, many of the activities did not receive the support they deserved.

Forms on the whole came up with new and novel ways of raising money.  Some of the more interesting ideas were: Manicures, Hand Massage, School Year Address Book, a Limbo Dancing Competition, Shoe Polishing, the “Jello Factor” (a St. George’s variation on the Krypton Factor) and the Stocks which involved students paying to throw sponges at Mr Jones and Mr Shaw.  Thank you staff for being such good sports!!!

Despite lack of support for some of our activities, a commendable 3,895.55 Sfr was raised this term.  This money goes to the 10 charities which we currently sponsor - details of which can be seen in our Autumn 1999 term review.

The Social Services Committee met at the end of term to discuss our plans for fund-raising over the next academic year.  Many comments and suggestions were made and Madame Marabotto, head of fund-raising, will be introducing the new programme at the beginning of next term.  We hope that the new programme will prove successful and very profitable.

The highlight of the Social Services calendar this term was undoubtedly the Burrier concert held at the school on Saturday 3rd of June.  The Burier concert and afternoon tea is an annual event which has taken place since the founding of the school and is an event enjoyed by students and Burier residents alike.

The Burier residents enjoyed a selection of songs sung by the St. George’s School Choir and Selected Soloists, Piano and Flute Solos, Mime, Indian Dancing, Poetry Recitations, Acting and Mexican Dancing. A scrumptious Afternoon Tea, courtesy of Madame Elsner and the Domestic Staff followed, and was thoroughly enjoyed.
