Mrs Gaye Zünd, Principal of St. George's, was delighted to welcome many Georgentians to the first reunion of the Millennium held in Clarens on the 25th of March. The event was punctuated by champagne cocktails and photos shared and taken, followed by a beautiful buffet luncheon prepared with loving care by Mrs. Elsener and her staff.  Students who left St. George’s as far back as the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s were joined by more recent graduates of the 1990’s and all were happy to reminisce about their time spent at the school.

The Spanish alumni were happy to see ‘their’ Marie José again, share fond memories and keep Mrs. Bodenmann abreast of their present achievements. Iria Souto’s husband was the brave ‘token’ male at the event, and he seemed to have a pleasant time in the company of Iria’s friends and teachers. The ‘Turkish delegation’ was joyful and full of news to share.

Following lunch in the dining room, the clement weather allowed us to have coffee and sharing of photo albums on the school terrace while enjoying the wonderful view of the lake and mountains. The end of the afternoon was devoted to visiting the senior girls’ chalet which has become a very successful junior school: with the numbers increasing so steadily, it is less and less appropriate to refer to it as a ‘department’! The new classrooms where the music rehearsal boxes were situated were also seen, albeit from the edge of the construction site of the new MAT development.

From there, the different groups formed and spent the rest of the weekend enjoying the Swiss Riviera in their own fashion.
