TES Newsday 2007

The annual TES Newsday Competition was held in the I.T. room on Thursday the 15th of March.  The room was a frenzy of activity from 8.30 am until the last page of the final product, an 18 page all-colour newspaper,  came out from the printer and was quickly dispatched by post to TES headquarters in the U.K by Mrs Brown.

To read an account of the day, check out Megan Stark's account of events below.

Message from the Editor ...

It is safe to say that our TES day was chaotic. We started off by mainly writing a few last-minute articles and just generally getting into the newspaper mood. Around about break time we started to compile the stories together to see what we had and how much room we had to fit them all in.

After the formats for each page was up, individual people started to work on individual things, we had Alison, assisted by Miss Hickey for our tech and computer support, Charné was on the front page banner and the 4 editors ran around helping whoever needed it.

Right before lunch it was decided that 2 more pages should be added due to the huge amount of articles that we had for our features section. We came back from our 30 minute break fully rejuvenated and ready to finish

Whilst printing the final copies of each page, reviewing them carefully for errors and then finally putting them in order, we began to see what we, as a class, had pulled together in the last 9 hours. Although we had written many of the articles ahead of time, we did the bulk of the labour between the hours of 8 and 5 (breaks included).

Only after rushing the final copies off to the post office to be mailed, could we sigh- it was over. After a long day we had only 2 more things on the agenda: clean up and go home!

For many of us, the best part of the day was seeing what we had done up on the wall. It was truly something to see what we had created and brought to life as a group. We offer a HUGE thank you to the teachers who helped us out throughout the day: Mrs. Brown, Ms. Eastham and Ms. Hickey. And now we wait for the results to come in…
