Despite
the temptation to spend more time on the ski pistes, this term has been
very productive and successful. The Junior Department has greatly
contributed to this success by organising, among other things, a very
successful non-uniform day. As
always, tutor groups had to organise an event in order to raise money.
Overall the attitude was optimistic and the outcome positive. A wide
range of activities took place. Nevertheless; the most common were the
bake sales. However, events such as: an egg hunt, a sponsored silence, a
week without chocolate and the concert competition were particularly
memorable and interesting events. However, the social services team
would like reluctantly to point out that not all of the tutor groups
participated and provided activities. A “wait and see” attitude was
shown by two particular tutor groups.
Clearly this passive attitude should be discouraged and a more
active one should be promoted. The social services team hopes that next
term this situation will alter. The
Burrier Home has not been forgotten either. Throughout this term 3
girls: Sophie Bentham, Alex Barrios and Mariel Luna have volunteered to
visit an old pensioner every Wednesday afternoon!!! A big thanks goes to
these girls, for giving up their free time! Another
occasion to raise money was St Valentine’s Day. Throughout the day
social services representatives sold roses and chocolate hearts. As
students emerged to please their loved ones, the team raised CHF 490. Yesterday,
together with the JD we spent a lovely day on the football pitch.
It wasn’t another football match; it was our traditional
Balloon Launch.
Accompanied by some shy clouds nearly 200 balloons floated in the
blue sky. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.
The
Social Services team has already scheduled several events for next term.
3 T-shirts signed by Beckham, Ronaldo and Zidane will be auctioned. So
don’t miss this great opportunity. In addition the JD will be
organizing a Summer Fair and the Senior School will hold another annual
concert for the Burrier Home! The
social services team wishes you a pleasant Easter holidays. Relax, enjoy
and gain energy because you will definitely need it for next term!!!! Valeria Ivashchenko
