Maths Competition at ISL

Middle School Mathematics Competition
April 1 - April 2 2006

Whilst everyone else was starting their three week Easter holiday a dedicated bunch of Year 8 and Year 9 mathematics pupils were heading to Lausanne to participate in a two-day Mathematics competition against schools from all over Europe.

It was our first ever competition and it proved to be a bit of a learning experience for us.  Each team consisted of three pupils and during the first day they had to tackle short and long questions testing the pupils' mathematical skills on a variety of interesting and puzzling maths problems.

The second day our pupils mixed with other pupils from the different schools to form new teams and raced from classroom to classroom trying to solve as many problems as possible in a given time.  The whole event proved to be very enjoyable and this was the main purpose.  Mr Ward would like to thank all the pupils involved - Sophie Watson, Meriwether Beckwith, Amanda Steinson, E J Batilando, Eri Ichijo, Laura Nixon and the reserves Alex Dal Canto and Nathalie Rey.
