| The first play of the afternoon began with a scene of a
grandmother telling a bedtime story to her grand-daughter about when she
was young and at school. It had all started out with Carol walking
to school, very excited for an outing with Mrs. Kay's "Progress
Class". While trying to board the school bus waiting to take
them on their excursion, the bus driver stops them before they even get a
chance to set foot near the bus.
Upon Mrs. Kay's arrival she takes the bus driver aside while she tells the children to quickly, but quietly get on the bus. She also tells the bus driver how these children are very well behaved and reassures him that they do not have any chocolate or fizzy drinks with them. Meanwhile as Mrs. Kay is saying all this, the children eagerly pull out all sorts of sweets and drinks that they knew the bus driver would not approve of. The bus driver then breaks out into a very creative song Minerva had put together, telling the audience and children on the bus how he is the owner of this magnificent bus and how its "his way or no way". Just as the bus is about to leave Mr. Briggs, a stern teacher, has been told to come along to supervise this outing. The children are very rowdy and rambunctious and are just happy to be away from Liverpool. Mr. Briggs thinks that this is a very bad idea and does not approve of the way Mrs. Kay controls her class. The scene ends with two girls, completely bored, complaining to Mrs. Kay about how they think everything is so boring. The overall structure of the play was very comical and creative. With the added idea of telling a story in the beginning made it seem even more realistic in the fact that it had already happened. The variety of songs sung by the students of Mrs. Kay's class and the bus driver also brought a light-hearted and comical view of the scene. Minerva won best actor, best set, and best programme for this outstanding performance.
