On the very evening itself of the birthday of the great Scots poet, a number of the staff gather in the hall to celebrate in the usual way. Haggis, specially imported for the occasion, and real neaps (swedes) were prepared by the chef and served in style, accompanied by a whisky sauce. Whisky was used for the toast and then followed a number of entertainment items: Scottish Songs, performed by Lyn Baerfuss and Ste Jones; readings of Burns’ poems and descriptions of his life. Finally, the assembled gathering was taken through a few dances in a traditional ceilidh. We look forward to next year and must get into training earlier for the dancing! |
