1940s Party

After the House Plays on the 12th of March students enjoyed tasty barbeque food, a fancy dress competition, entertainment in the form of highland dancing from the "Highland Byngs" and then a disco.

As the House Plays had been set during the Second World War, the theme for the party was the 1940s. Superb decorations prepared by Mrs Bartlett and the art students from Years 7, 8 and 9 graced the lounge and hall walls and subtly set the scene. Since the students who had taken part in the House Plays were still in costume, finding the right look for the evening was only a problem for the staff.

As you can see from the pictures below, they seemed to manage ok!  What a resourceful bunch they are ...

Army types Miss Hickey and Mr Katz make sure the party is conducted in an orderly fashion!

Mr Onslow looks splendid in his army uniform flanked by a very dapper Mr MacSweeney.

Miss French and Mr Jupp as  evacuees, Miss Hammal as a RAF officer and Miss Beckett as a black marketeer.

French resistance Mr Chapuis and Mlle Aminot enlist the help of Mr Hernandez in their clandestine activities.

Naval Commander Jones hangs out with some very strange company.

Hmm  now where have I seen this shady type before?

Miss Bolton on parade.

If found please return Miss French to the History Dept.

Two 1940s belles ... Mrs Fowler and Mrs Hayes.

Viva La France!

Fancy Dress Judges: Madame Chambovey, Mr Hernandez and Mr MacSweeney.

 Miss Hickey and Mr Shaw.

Chris as a Japanese Soldier.

Patrick is part of the allied forces.

Just what every submariner needs ... his very own submarine ... well done Mr Lineham!

Anyone for some silk stockings, chocolate or a few eggs ...
Miss Beckett is your man -oops -woman!

War evacuees Claire and Libby.

Let's hear it for the "Highland Byngs" who, having learned Scottish Country dancing in their PE lessons with Miss Byng this term, wanted to put it all into practice.  Two dances were performed, "Strip the Willow" and "The Gay Gordons" in traditional kilts and tartans ... ok well the nearest thing! Better yet was Mr Onslow and Miss McHugh joining in for a few turns around the floor!

The Highland Byngs ... Sara Bosshart, Tamara Paquin, Elena Fokina, Catherine Mugnier, Serena Cutter, Natalie Attar, Seb Montero, Chloe Harty, Katrina Salmon, Melissa Shoup, Ludmila Goutina, James Spelling, Filipa Mendes & Ed Harty.

Nice outfits boys!

Round and round they go!

Miss McHugh & Mr Onslow lead the way!

All in all, a fun night.  Next term we will not be having our Summer House Party.  In its place there will be the Summer BBQ and the International Fashion Show ... see you all then.
