Skiing and Snowboarding

Once again a busy term on the Sports front. Skiing dominated the programme this term with twice weekly visits to Les Mosses for skiing and snowboarding lessons. 

On Sunday, each weekend, students had the possibility of trying out their skills at different resorts including Morgins, Villars, Les Crosets, Barboleusaz, Les Diablerets etc.  The term was brought to a suitable close with Ski Trips to Verbier which, for our Seniors, were held over the weekend of 23 to 25 March and for our Juniors were held on 26 to 28 March.  A big thank you to Miss Byng and Mr Hill for organising such an enjoyable programme.

The St. George's Ski Team also enjoyed a successful season.  Margaux Hippenmeyer scored a creditable 5th place in the Aiglon Giant Slalom Invitational whilst Stephanie Hitchens won two individual bronze medals and one silver medal at the A.D.I.S.R. championships in Gstaad.  The Minimes Girls also swept up the team title at this prestigious event. Congratulations to gold medal winners Vivianne Loopuyt, Olivia Perrin and Stephanie Hitchens.

Ski Tests

This year the Ecole Suisse de Ski at Les Mosses introduced a new system for rewarding progress in skiing and snowboarding - the Swiss Snow League Badges.  The new system of teaching recognises that both beginners and advanced skiers are aiming to master the same efficient movements.  Thus many of our first time skiers were able to progress more quickly through the levels and our "experts" were challenged at the top end of the spectrum.

S.G.I.S. Volleyball

The Senior Girls Volleyball team of Nicole Dobianer (Captain), Gisela Telles, Kseniya Shapovalova, Maria Kazakova, Nidhi Chatlani, Rani Houyez, Radmila Yordanova, Maria Esteve and Selina Galbraith excelled all our expectations by winning the S.G.I.S. Volleyball competition over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of March.  Congratulations to the team and to Miss Byng their coach. In attaining their gold medals, St. George's beat Berne, I.S.L., KLAS A and KLAS B, and Brillantmont.

Basketball

St. George's were also successful at the S.G.I.S. Junior Girls Basketball Tournament taking the bronze medal in the event.
