Social Services Update

Students, staff  and indeed parents have all been busy raising money for our charities this term.  So far we have raised 9,000 francs and, with only one term down, we are well on our way to matching if not beating our record of 17,000 francs raised last year.

The highlight this term was Bonfire Night,  held in November, which raised a staggering 6,700 francs.  Particular thanks goes to the PLG for organising and running the bottle stall and to Miss Beckett and Year 12 for designing, manufacturing and selling the lovely poetry book "Seasons of Life".  If you would like to buy a copy of the Seasons of Life poetry book, which contains poems written by students of both the Junior Department and Senior School at St. George's please contact office@st-georges.ch.

On Sunday the 24th of October Mr Gillan and Mr Chapuis ran the 21 km Lausanne Half Marathon in aid of Fond'action Contre le Cancer. The raised 322 francs in sponsorship money.  Thank you Mr Gillan and Mr Chapuis for this kind gesture and to the staff and students who sponsored their efforts.

Bonfire Night was particularly important to us as it gave us the chance to support a charity, Fond'action Contre Le Cancer, which is close to our hearts.  One of our Year 12 students, Margaux Hippenmeyer  was diagnosed with cancer last June and in September of this year she proposed that Fond'action Contre Le Cancer should receive donations from Social Services at St. George's.  Madame Chambovey, Mr Chapuis and Mrs Steinson were delighted to be able to help and so far this term the sum of 7,000 francs has been donated to this worthy charity.

Raising money for charities is the cornerstone of true citizenship and is at the centre of the St George’s ethos.  It is an invaluable experience and we would like to thank each and every person who has taken part in our activities and to encourage this to continue. Non-uniform day, the Balloon Launch, a Valentines' Party are fund-raising events to look forward to next term.  See you all then!
