Barcelona

Sunny Barcelona home to Year 11, Miss Hammal, Mr Jones and
Mr Hernandez for their Field Trip in October 2004.
From all accounts this trip was a great success ... over to Brad Stark for his poem giving a quick review.

  First Time in Barcelona

It would be my first trip ever to Spain,
And with bad weather reports, packing’s a pain.
As quick as it started the packing was done,
All that was left was to wait for the fun.

The first day’s journey by bus and the plane,
Quicker it seemed than Paris by train.
The girls each arrived with luggage for three,
But the boys had packed more spaciously.

The flight with Easyjet – different to how it seems,
For one must arrive early for the seat of one’s dreams.
We were there first
So had the best not the worst.

Arriving in Barcelona we were shocked to discover,
a
nd muffled our cries of absolute horror:
A language found different than that of our own,
Some found it fluent; others unknown.

It was Spanish, adults soon explained,
And the floor was now wet with tears that rained.
Our English was no use in any of this place –
Bewilderment appeared on many a face.

But some soon realised what those classes were for,
Making a beeline straight for the door.
We greeted the sunshine with a laugh and a smile,
For it seemed the rain clouds would hold off for a while.

Now done with the travel, Gaudi’s first stop:
His house of allsorts untouched so as not to drop.
Then off to the beach for we wanted to play,
The water too cold, so on sand we would stay.

Getting quite hungry and ready for more,
Our plates soon filled with tapas galore!
Although the poem ends, the trip’s yet to finish,
But my skills as a poet will start to diminish.

The three teachers I’m to thank
But first I’ll be frank.
This trip was the best,
Far above all the rest.

There was many a time I’ve wondered ‘bout Spain,
And all the great knowledge I there would gain.
Well now the trip’s over, it’s unfortunately true.
To all the teachers a huge THANK YOU!
