Swim for Terri

Swim for Terri - Channel Swim (but warmer!!!)

In 1998 when Terri Calvesbert was nearly 2 years old she suffered 90% burns in a house fire.  Terri lost her hands, toes, nose and nearly all of her skin.  Her story was featured in a one hour documentary "Being Terri" on British TV on June 9th 2003.

Terri has had 16 operations in the last 3 years and will have operations every year for the rest of her life.

On the 28th of November the 23 members of the swim team dedicated their training session to Terri in an effort to raise money to support Terri in the coming years and in some small way improve her quality of life.  Collectively the team swam 35 km (700 laps), which is a distance equivalent to the English Channel.  The money raised will go to the Terri Calvesbert Fund.

British International Schools in Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Ukraine, UAE, Uruguay and Vietnam have organised similar swims to cover Terri's future needs including surgery.

Every student and teacher at St. George's was given a sponsorship form to help raise funds for this worthy cause.  The swim itself was supervised by Miss Byng, Head of PE and Mrs Bosshart (mum to Sara in Yr 12 and Phillippe in Yr 9) and a fantastic 5,000 chf was raised.

Thank you all for your generosity and thank you particularly to the members of the swim team who made this possible:
