Maria & Cheryl enjoy their bead making.

During Art week, Mrs Samuel did Mehndi hand painting with us.  This was a kind of paint that stayed on for one week.  We also made Indian bracelets.  We did couching from Afghanistan with Mrs Mathers. Couching is looping, twisting and braiding.  We made Himalayan beads and we painted and decorated them.  After that we put them through a string and hung them up.  Mrs Mathers and Mrs Samuel helped us a lot and we would like to say thank you.

Art Week in Year 4

"Miss Johnson's class looked at Japanese Kimonos and designed their own patterns.  Miss Donegan's class studied Islamic patterns and patterns in the style of William Morris and did some printing on card.

It was very interesting.  Islamic patterns looked very plain and simple. William Morris' patterns seemed to focus mainly on leaves and flowers but they were very complicated, so we did the Islamic kind of pattern.  We designed our pattern on paper and then we made templates to print with.  Some of us went downstairs to print our pattern on coloured card. The rest of us stayed upstairs and did our design on a plain piece of paper.  There were lots of different and interesting designs.  Then when we had finished doing the printing we made patterns in the style of William Morris except we did it symmetrically.  The end result was that we decorated a part of the Chalet with wallpaper.  It was great fun!

Miss Johnson's class stenciled on material.  We used a stencil to paint on butterflies and dragonflies and flowers.  We also drew an outline of a kimono and we copied the kimonos onto nice paper.  We also made a class kimono.  We made bookmarks by folding paper into the shape of ladies. This is called origami.  Next we wrote our name in Japanese.  The best bit is that our walls look nice!

In French and EFL lessons we also studied a man called Hundertwasser.  He liked circles so we drew a picture with no straight lines and lots of circles.  Hundertwasser liked colours so we had to colour in our picture using lots of colour.  It was great fun!"

Work inspired by Hundertwasser (1928 - 2000) ...

As well as creating pictures of buildings, Hundertwasser designed many ususual and interesting buildings.  He hated straight lines and believed in nature and humans living in harmony.  So he designed buildings with greenery and trees on the roofs.  Most of all he wanted to create buildings that made people happy and were environmentally friendly.
